Working Girl

It’s a new week!!!  And I am hoping the weatherman is right and it will be a warmer week!  Last week’s hormonal valleys and peaks on the forcast matched my own mood let me tell you.  I was so thankful for a warm day but to be followed up by an icy blizzard was no fun.  I’ve been working my baby steps and moving two steps forward and one step backwards but the difference my friend is HOPE.  And PROMISE.

I am really enjoying working part time outside of the home as a substitue teacher.  It is giving me fresh ideas on parenting that is for sure!  And I come back to my creative business with a little more appreciation and passion.  The people I am meeting in both walks of life are such a blessing.  Investing in people and relationships is truly the most rewarding way to spend time.  I really enjoyed my visit with my good friend Sheila Rumney of Blessed & Distressed this weekend.  She is such an inspiration.  Check out her latest blog post for a sweet tutorial.

I am trekking along in my photography class but am too embarrassed to post any photos yet.  It is much more complicated than I had thought it would be!  I am learning to read my manual and even was inspired to break out my car manual and figure out some of the gadgets on that techy thing.

Brocante Bliss was hopping this weekend and I had a blast chatting with customers!  I am really enjoying this new venue.  I am already dreaming up fun ways to usher in spring in the space next month!  What items are you looking for?  I am also creating some fun and fresh new spring scents in my candle line and booking some great venues as well.

I love the HOPE & PROMISE that comes with Spring.  As I walk around the farm doing chores I am already searching for signs that she is on her way.

What is bringing you HOPE & PROMISE this week?

Savoring the Moment and Learning Along The Way

I love baby steps!!!  I love when I can see progress from baby steps!!!  Whether it’s physical, financial or spiritual.  Whether it’s for my business, my relationships or my home, baby steps work!!!  I also love knowledge and I’m so excited to be combining the two to make improvements in all areas of my life.  I have really been trying to SAVOR each moment and make the most of it.  This includes actually making time for people and for LEARNING.

I am using these strategies to live healthier and to grow my business.  To act more responsibly and to be a better person.  Some of the ways I am doing that are by taking a photography class and a business class.  By exploring more options for my business and listening to books while in the car.

These small baby steps are working great with my family too.  I see them inspired by my self accountability (they haven’t said so but I’m sure they are!).  I see them setting goals too.  One of my boys who usually dislikes sports of any kind has asked to play basketball.  I signed him up before he could change his mind.  Since his attention span is short we take turns playing coach and do small drills for about 30 minutes each day.  That’s it.  We are having so much fun he doesn’t realize it’s work.  Another son was feeling overwhelmed with school work so 30 minutes a day we are all doing study work together and we don’t feel stressed when test day comes and we are thrilled to get that 104%.  Yes mama was thrilled too and I learned along the way!!  Even when it comes to cleaning the house by tackling, together, one room, then being done for a while it’s not that big of a chore.  And we are spending less time in front of the tv.  Yea!

This week I’m inspired to extend some of my goals.  I’m ready to read up, meet up, show up each day and SAVOR it and LEARN from it.  Taking the extra 5 minutes to make hot tea and light a candle makes bath time that much more relaxing.  Playing Just Dance with your family keeps you all healthy and combines family fun time.  Listening to whatever motivates you while you drive or exercise encourages you and maybe even your kiddos may hear something that encourages them too.

That’s what this blog is all about for me.  I am so not perfect and have oh so much to work on in my life.  Yet I long to find inspiration and dole it out and encourage you all.  Because together we can make anything possible!

All In A Row

I have this little Pinterest board…..perhaps maybe a few Pinterest boards….that is there for days like today.  I am talking about my “All In A Row” board.  You see I have had a very crazy beginning to the New Year.  One that confirms the summons that January beckons.  I need to purge.  Get more organized.  I am a fairly organized person.  I don’t have a lot of room for extra stuff.  And if you ask my kiddos teachers I am constantly throwing away papers I may or may not have been supposed to keep.

One chaotic Monday morning this month there was a divine intervention I truly believe.  It had been a hard week.  Actually 2012 was a hard year.  But anyways that week had been really tough.  The weekend tougher.  And Monday morning.  Someone was out to get me.  I probably don’t talk enough about my spiritual life.  I’m not the preachy type.  But boy oh boy.  I have no doubt that my Sweet Jesus sent a crew of angels to protect me that day.  Listen to this song by Rodney Atkins if you haven’t before.  I was going through Hell.  But I wasn’t going to stop there. I kept going, praying and believing that God would get me through.  And He did.  And I believe it’s because of Him I am still alive.  I won’t tell you the details and some of you that know some of them might think I’m exaggerating; but I’m convinced.  So…. very long story put very shortly, the last attempt to my destruction ended in my car being totaled (after we all safely evacutated the building we were in when it happened, someone had hit my parked car which hit the building and the gas line. I told you!).  Yes, the lovely minivan that I carted my children around. My livestock.  The one that once lost it’s steering wheel while I was driving.  Good times.  I actually did love that van.  One of the reasons is that it was paid for.  Which brings me to my need to get organized.  I couldn’t find the title anywhere!  I could find every other paper from the van; even receipts from oil changes!  So this week I re ordered the title and am organizing all of our important documents.  I love this photo and instructions can be found by clicking on it.

I don’t plan on stopping there.  I NEED to organize my pantry and mud room as well.  Here are my inspiration photos for those.  If you find any vintage lockers like these.  Call me.  Please!

Click on the fridge photo for this ladies awesome organization tips.

Well gals.  I have lots and lots of work to do.  Do you have any organizing tips to share?  I’d love to hear them!  Oh and thanks for listening!

What’s Your Word?

I have been struggling what I wanted my first post of 2013 to be about.  It seems my life has had a lot of that lately….tossing….turning…thinking….analyzing…..too much of it!  I was asked recently what I wanted my “word” for 2013 to be and I have chosen:  BALANCE.

I am a very diverse person.  I love SO many aspects of life.  If you look around my home or even on my iTunes playlist you will see that I love diversity.  I actually like that about myself.  I love details whether it’s in adding up reciepts and making sure my ducks are in a row or adding sequins to a scarf or an accessory to my outift.  I love to read fun, romantic novels and I love to hone in on factual books on business.  I feel blessed that I truly enjoy so many aspects of life.

One thing I discovered about myself over this long holiday break (lots of snow days, sick days and holidays) is how good BALANCE is for me.  Even, routine, with scheduled time for….nothing!  I saw this on Pinterest just today and I love it!

With all of my free time I was busy at first of course prepping for the holidays.  Then they came and so many people were sick that it didn’t even feel like Christmas.  I was able to enjoy the luxuries of fine chocolates and reading (I love this new book I received as a gift), time to create and paint and craft, time spent with my boys and their new toys.  Time visiting people and connecting.  It was wonderful!  Then there were days when I was home and saw all the things I didn’t like or got just plain OVER my phone!!!  I mean I seriously did not want to look at it again for at least one whole day!  haha!  That sounds terrible but it’s true!  I set out the next day and bought new paint for the kitchen at Lowe’s and crossword puzzles at Target.

So this year I am going to really try to EMBRACE my geeky side of making goals and planning things out months in advance as well as REIGN IN my side of “I’m not making anyone dinner this weekend until I finish this book or paint this canvas or crochet this blanket.”  Yes.  I’ve done all of the above.  I’m just training my boys to make good husbands by learning to do things themselves.  haha.

Yep.  This year I will strive for BALANCE.  To take time to REDISCOVER why I love my farmy lifestyle and why I started this blog and call my girlfriends and make lunch plans.  And really try to live in each MOMENT an authentic life.  To have no regrets.

What’s your word?

After Christmas Fun

I have had so much fun this week working on little projects.  I am anxiously awaiting a shipment of some new fragrances to make some amazing new candles and tarts.  Today I ordered some fun notions from one of my favorite shops:  The Speckled Egg.  Heather was an amazing supporter of The Gathering and I love participating in her swaps.  She has a sale going on now so please take the time to check out her shop.

I love to paint but usually don’t have the time to indulge so I have enjoyed this time for creativity this week.  With January fast approaching I have WINGS and CLOCKS on my mind.  Here are a few sneak peaks.  For the final reveal come see me at Brocante Bliss January 4-6.

Feathers + Glitter + Rhinestones = A touch of heaven

This image will be featured in a BIG way in the new space at Brocante Bliss

Wings are so signifcant to me and just the touch of security I need.

I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas and that all of your holiday wishes came true.  I have been enjoying lots of hot beverages and playing loads of games with the kiddos.  It has truly been a sacred time of year for us as we counted our blessings, remembered loved ones and celebrated the birth of our Savior.  Praying 2013 blesses your socks off!!

My Christmas List

No this list was not compiled soley for my husband.  I acutally have nothing on my Christmas Wish List this year.  Nothing tangible anyway.  Of course I want no more heart ache….this world, this girl, has seen enough lately!  I want the honey do list to shrink instead of grow.  I want to take my kids to Disney World.  You know, the usual.

But thanks to Pinterest, my aide in discovering things I didn’t know I needed, I thought it would be fun to show you some of the things I’ve “liked” that I would love to find in my stocking.  Merry Christmas friends.  May you cherish your time with your family & friends this holiday season.  God Bless.

A little dressy, A little messy.

Yep. I need these. Love Anthropologie.

Sea Salt. Sand. Sun. And Beach Waves.

You can never have too many phone chargers.

I always have a ton of books on my Wish List. This one I need.

Make It Happen

I saw this on Pinterest and it spoke to me:

I’ve always been pretty good at knowing what I want.  Making a detailed outline of how to make it happen.  Sometimes life gets in the way.  I’ve decided to pick up some of those lists that have been on the backburner.  Those things you pin on Pinterest?  Why not tackle that project?  What are you waiting for?  Life is so short I want it to be sweet.  Full of living those dreams.  No regrets.  I have been stepping out of my comfort zone and trying new things.  And I like it!   With the New Year just around the corner why not make one of your dreams come true?

The Creative Wave

Good Morning!  I am so excited for the holiday season. Yesterday I purchased all of the trimmings for the packages I plan to wrap. Every year I change up the colors. This year it will be shiny red with some burlap and berries mixed in.

I have also cleaned out my supply room/craft space and uncovered some fun trinkets and yep, glitter, I had forgotten I had!!

There is something about the handmade touch of a carefully wrapped package or gift.  My mother was always making something as I grew up.  At  Christmas time even more so.  The same goes for my sister in law and mother in law.  I am blessed to be surrounded by such creative women.

I have shared much in the past about The Gathering and the Shine workshop here on my blog. But they are so important to me…inspiring women through a creative outlet. Who or what inspires you?

Thanks to these two events I have met some amazing women and some wonderful opportunities have arrived. Today you can find an article in our local newspaper of April and I making an ornament we are featuring from our Shine friend and mentor, Karla Nathan. Please visit her blog at Karla’s Cottage. We also have the chance to set up a space at Brocante Bliss in the West Bottoms. We tend to specialize in pop up events so we are very excited about that.

Won’t  you join us and share your holiday creativity?  Catch the Creative Wave!

Weekend Wanderings Dec 7-9, 2012

Two of my favorite sales are making their monthly debut this weekend:  First Fridays in the West Bottoms, KC & The Red Apron Sale in Liberty, Mo.

A few years ago my husband and I went to enjoy some local theatre in our town.  Which always provides star quality.  I am seriously amazed at the talent in our area.  We went to see A Christmas Story…one of Aaron’s favorite Christmas movies.  The play is being performed this weekend if you have time to go you really should.

Santa will be at the Rolling Hills Library for StoryTime this Saturday and is always a good time with the kiddos.

My little men have been under the weather this week and I have done nothing but snuggle their sweetness the past few days that we have been home and I have worked the other days.  So my list is long, the dirty laundry pile is high and the cupboards are getting bare.  But that is life.  We are living it and even though I dream of a, sparkling clean house and I love to be prepared and organized and I wish I had the presents  already wrapped under the tree,  I am doing my best and right now I am taking any cuddle I can from my growing boys.  Speaking of growing my baby boy turns 6 on Sunday!  I can hardly believe it!  Where has the time gone?  I had someone tell me today how much I have to be thankful for and they were so very right.  Admist the season when we are encouraged to do more, buy more, get more I look around and see how much I already have.

Happy Holiday Season Friends!

Shimmer & Shine

The amazing ornament we made designed and taught by Miss Karla Nathan

Last week’s Shine workshop that I posted about was A-Mazing!!!  Being surrounded by creative & talented women who are sharing their experiences in a business you aspire to have is so uplifting!  And valuable!  What I learned the most was that anyone can reach their dreams if they take action.  A successful business is an individual thing and I love that!  What makes me feel successful is all that matters.

The 4 beauties: Carol Spinski, Karla Nathan, Debbie Dusenberry & Amy Barickman

I came away encouraged and ready to tackle the Next part of my creative business.  And my number one goal is to inspire others like you.  Even if I just point you to a person or a place that will land you the connection you need then I am thrilled!  I do love to make things and decorate and enjoy my booth spaces but those are just outlets for me to connect with amazing women like you.

My Creative Muses: April Schweizer & Sheila Rumney
