Down on the Farm

I had a date with my pruners today.  It was long overdue.  The cooler temperatures have allowed me to get back outside and get some work done around the farm.  Unfortunately we have had some disappointments.  Like the huge increase in chicken feed prices.  The death of 3 Turkeys in 1 week (long, gruesome story…ugh!) and 1 chicken.  The realization that Miss T is not pregnant just a healthy, voluptuous goat.  On a happier note the weeds have never looked hardier and the rain gauge is still empty!!!  (forced smile).

Really I am very blessed; we have enough hay & water for the winter to come and that in itself is reason to celebrate after this long summer.  Some of my plants are still alive and the okra & eggplant are still producing!  We planted some extra wheat seed & extra large beets in hopes of rain that may possibly come through (please Lord!) which will be like exotic sushi & chocolate for the cows & goats to munch on this winter.

The boys have started back to school and in between my random bouts of teary nostalgia (like on the phone with my mother in law at the grocery store) I have survived.  The house looks messier than usual as I am trying to ‘deep clean’ & purge without interruption.  Candles have been poured (Cherry Almond, Farmhouse Cider, Hot Apple Pie….the house smells amazing!) and on one day I let myself take a lunch break in front of the tv and watched Junk Gypsies.  At that moment there were tears of joy.

one of our friends; Joyce!

Blue Luna & I just wrapped up a weekend of fun at Trails West where we received a blue ribbon for best booth in the craft division.  We had not even known there was a contest and neither one of us had ever received a blue ribbon before so it was very exciting!  I have the ribbon at the moment and April gets to keep it on holidays and every other weekend.  It was a successful show and we were so happy to get to visit with some of you and share our passion for candles, jewelry, decorating and crafty goodness like The Gathering.

The Gathering.  We have been scheming and molding this little baby and I have to say I am sad that it is almost here because I don’t want it to grow up and move on just yet.  It has been the most fun and we have met the most amazing people through all of the planning and I kinda think I’ll be meeting more of you fabulous ladies that day!  Be prepared to have loads of fun is all I can say!!!

If you’re out and about tomorrow go see HomeGrown Junk she is having an awesome sale and I’m trying really hard to convince myself I don’t need to drive 3 hours to go to it……….Also the Rusty Chandelier in St Joe is having a fun Pop Up Flea Market tomorrow….stop by our booth downstairs and look at our goodies.  Oh & if you haven’t signed up for a class at The Gathering or emailed me to participate in the Building Your Bliss Swap please do so I’d love to have you!!!

Junk Hugs,

Jen
