Bring In Spring By Shopping!

Most of you know that my lovely sister in law and I share a space in the West Bottoms at a sweet shoppe called Brocante Bliss.  We really love to bring our ‘JUNK’ together and make a beautiful space.  If you have not been down to Kansas City to check out these amazing shoppes, which are only open once a month (first Friday, Saturday and Sunday) then you really are missing out.

Also later in the month you can find us at the amazing Fleeting Flea show in Overland Park.  We will be set up there on March 21-23.  This is another one of a kind event featuring local artists..

Later in the year we will be selling in Atchison and Illinois!  We are thrilled to have been included in the wildly famous Nada Farm Sale! If you read any of the Where Women (create/cook/business) Magazines then you are very familiar with the amazing Anne Marie.  I am truly honored to be apart of the show.

And plans have begun for the next Gathering!  So mark your calendars for our local show on Saturday September 28.  We are very excited for what the future holds for this event of ours.

Thank You!

Thank you so much to everyone who came out to The  Gathering this past weekend!  It was a fabulous time!!!  I was a little star struck by all of my favorite vendors, artists, teachers, media and you!!!  Yes all of you lovely people who came to support April & I’s little dream.  Thank you!!!  We had over 100 shoppers and countless friends, family and vendors.

The farm has survived without me as hubby & the boys stepped in to take over chores.  The cows were happy to see me and the eggs actually might get brought into the house rather than chucked by the boys this week. The house however is still getting some much needed attention.  Life goes on and so I am making candles for this weekends Apple Fest in Weston.  It will be a great time…I hope to see some of you there.  Make sure you check back often to see where La Ferme will be….there are many more exciting events coming up!

Again, thank you, thank you, thank you!!!  I am overwhelmed by your support.  Farm Hugs, Jennifer

Head Out On The Highway

You all know I love a good road trip!!!  My Junkin’ Travels would take me clear across the Midwest if my hubby would let me!!  My boys have learned to love the art of treasure hunting with no choice of their own!!!

I have put together a little Road Trip Love for all you Dirt Road Dreamers & Gravel Travelers that just so happens to coincde with our lovely little event; The Gathering.  So don’t say it’s too far away. Make a weekend of it. And if you grab a couple of girlfriends you can split the cost of gas and hotel.

Hotel you say?  Why yes I did.  St Joseph is one of the few towns in the Midwest that boasts the home of Stoney Creek Inn.  My family & I love this sweet spot not only for the rustic decor & indoor pool but it’s friendliness of the staff and cleanliness.  And it’s got great rates.  In fact!!!!  If you mention The Gathering you can score a room for under $100!!!  For just $99 buckaroos you can enjoy a lovely room.  Give Shawn a call at (816) 901.9600 * 1.800.659.2220.

Now we know that you’re coming to The Gathering on Saturday September 29 between 9-5 (since you’re probably taking a class you’ll be here all day loves!!!) but on your way over you’ll want to stop by the Trash To Treasure Flea Market that opens up at 8 a.m. and supports our local museums which I happen to LOVE.  You will find this event at 3406 Frederick Avenue.

Rewind to Thursday evening & Friday September 28.   One of my favorite shoppes, Artistic Works by Lu, is hosting a fabulous soiree.  Lu’s “Autumn Affair” is September 27 from 4-8 p.m. with a debut of her fall jewelry line and chic fashion trends. You don’t want to miss this event and all of the charming shops in downtown Leavenworth like The Candle Queen Boutique.  On Friday swing by Weston, MO (all about 30 minutes from Saint Joseph), Parkville, MO and Platte City, MO for even more unique shopping.  Saint Joseph also boasts great shopping that will be represented at The Gathering like Chic Boutique, Kat & Co & The Rusty Chandelier.  Savannah, MO (another stone’s throw away) has sweet stores like Heavenly Treasures & the Ivy Cottage.  No shortage of goodies to purchase ladies.

After your awesome day on Saturday at The Gathering….Sunday morning you’re ready to go home but not before you hit the Antique Stores along 36 Highway and in Cameron, MO.  Right outside of Cameron in a rural community called Hamilton you will find the Barn Gypsy sale which you do not want to miss.

Shop Til You Drop is what gals do best and this is one weekend you can do just that!!!

Down on the Farm

I had a date with my pruners today.  It was long overdue.  The cooler temperatures have allowed me to get back outside and get some work done around the farm.  Unfortunately we have had some disappointments.  Like the huge increase in chicken feed prices.  The death of 3 Turkeys in 1 week (long, gruesome story…ugh!) and 1 chicken.  The realization that Miss T is not pregnant just a healthy, voluptuous goat.  On a happier note the weeds have never looked hardier and the rain gauge is still empty!!!  (forced smile).

Really I am very blessed; we have enough hay & water for the winter to come and that in itself is reason to celebrate after this long summer.  Some of my plants are still alive and the okra & eggplant are still producing!  We planted some extra wheat seed & extra large beets in hopes of rain that may possibly come through (please Lord!) which will be like exotic sushi & chocolate for the cows & goats to munch on this winter.

The boys have started back to school and in between my random bouts of teary nostalgia (like on the phone with my mother in law at the grocery store) I have survived.  The house looks messier than usual as I am trying to ‘deep clean’ & purge without interruption.  Candles have been poured (Cherry Almond, Farmhouse Cider, Hot Apple Pie….the house smells amazing!) and on one day I let myself take a lunch break in front of the tv and watched Junk Gypsies.  At that moment there were tears of joy.

one of our friends; Joyce!

Blue Luna & I just wrapped up a weekend of fun at Trails West where we received a blue ribbon for best booth in the craft division.  We had not even known there was a contest and neither one of us had ever received a blue ribbon before so it was very exciting!  I have the ribbon at the moment and April gets to keep it on holidays and every other weekend.  It was a successful show and we were so happy to get to visit with some of you and share our passion for candles, jewelry, decorating and crafty goodness like The Gathering.

The Gathering.  We have been scheming and molding this little baby and I have to say I am sad that it is almost here because I don’t want it to grow up and move on just yet.  It has been the most fun and we have met the most amazing people through all of the planning and I kinda think I’ll be meeting more of you fabulous ladies that day!  Be prepared to have loads of fun is all I can say!!!

If you’re out and about tomorrow go see HomeGrown Junk she is having an awesome sale and I’m trying really hard to convince myself I don’t need to drive 3 hours to go to it……….Also the Rusty Chandelier in St Joe is having a fun Pop Up Flea Market tomorrow….stop by our booth downstairs and look at our goodies.  Oh & if you haven’t signed up for a class at The Gathering or emailed me to participate in the Building Your Bliss Swap please do so I’d love to have you!!!

Junk Hugs,

Jen

The Gathering Sneak Peak in Pictures

The Gathering is going to be amazing.  PLEASE make sure to attend this event.  Not just to support me (I love you all & appreciate your support; thank you!) but also to support all of the AmAzInG, lOcAl, BeAuTiFuL, cReAtIvE wOmEn who are making this possible by being a vendor, an instructor, a chef, a volunteer, a sponsor, an advertiser, a friend, an artist, the list goes on.  There are not a lot of events out there like this one in our area and one that is so passionate about supporting women and their local businesses.  Y’all know I think women are amazing and I applaud each of you out there reading this and I thank you.  No matter where you are in life and what you are doing – YOU are amazing.  YOU are worth it.  YOU are loved!

My “Studio”

Who doesn’t love to ooh & ahh over other people’s homes?  Get ideas from their designs?  Hello?  Pintrest?!  With the launch of my ‘mini’ businesses (not to mention farm life but La Ferme soy candles & my crafty event planning like Rusty ReDeux & The Gathering)  I’ve been looking for inspiration for my workspaces.  Not just organization (yes ma’am I need that!!!) but it has to look pretty. My Desert Cottage hosts an amazing event each year called Where Bloggers Create!  You can go here and see all of the participants lovely workspaces.  I can hardly wait to see this years, in which I have decided to join in the fun.  No, it’s not because I have a fabulous space.  In fact space is something I’m lacking.  But part of my passion behind anything I do is to ENCOURAGE women.  And honey if I can run a business from my kitchen table then you can too!!!  I do my best business planning while ironing hubby’s shirts (gotta have something to make it less of a chore).  I dream up new packaging while milking the goat.  Building Lincoln Log towers?  Yep….working!!!  I might not have much space to store all the goodies I need but my mind is brimming with ideas; which is why I love what Karen from My Dessert Cottage has done so I can get ideas for my “studio” all the while being inspired.

You know that I’m a farmer so I have several “headquarters” in the barnyard.  The Chateau Poulet is a spot I visit daily.

Now this is a place where some serious work gets done!!!  I’m a planner and a creative soul & it all starts with a beautiful view.  When I’m planning a class for Rusty ReDeux or dreaming up booth displays a shady tree is perfect for me.

I store paint and shovels, seeds & feed, bubbles & baseball bats; all in here.

Inside the house I do a lot of work on the computer.  Yes honey Facebook can be considered working!!!  I also make my soy candles in the house.  I store all of my notebooks, scraps of lace, fragrance oils, wax, lids, twine, clay, etc, etc in a small room off my kitchen.  I’m not sure what purpose the room was intended for, maybe a pantry of sorts, but I fit two pieces of furniture in there.  A small rolltop and an old changing table with a burlap skirt.

Every girl needs a tape measurer.

Using precious vertical space for past & future class projects.

Ribbons & baubles

Stacked Storage

What I love most about the Where Bloggers Create ‘challenge’ is that next year I can look back and see where I was just 7 short months after launching 2 businesses at once!  And seeing how far I’ve come.  Hopefully no matter how much space I might physically have I will be overflowing with dreams & the joy I get from creating.

A GIVEAWAY!!!

VISIT MY PAGE THE GATHERING AND THEN LIKE “THE GATHERING” ON FACEBOOK & LEAVE A COMMENT THAT YOU “LIKED” IT AFTER READING THIS POST or LEAVE A COMMENT HERE TO BE ENTERED INTO A DRAWING.  DRAWING WILL BE HELD JULY 16.
