Herb Garden

Our first landscaping project was 11  years ago …. 4 raised beds with an arbor attaching.  This was our vegetable garden for several years.  Now that we have our BIG GARDEN of 28 raised beds these 4 have become the herb garden.

Of course one of the first items we planted was chocolate mint.  I love that it’s a perennial.  So many herbs are.  Sage is another favorite.

sage and pineapple sage are also perennials. we use them when cooking potatoes or chicken

One of my favorite blogs:  Parisienne Farmgirl has an excellent Potager Series. I am ready to add more mulch, some flowers and beautify this simple space! So far this year I’ve added a dwarf alberta spruce for some height and winter color to the center of each bed.

We also added 3 baby goldfish to our ornamental pond next to the Herb Garden.  When I went to look for them this morning I spotted Mr. Bullfrog.  I sure hope he didn’t eat our new friends.

What’s your favorite herb?  Do you have a special space for them or include them in your vegetable garden?  I thought this was a cute idea.  Thank you Pinterest!  Happy planting!

Egg Carton Swap

I love any excuse to get creative and I love to give gifts!  Why not join me in a swap where you get to do both?

Each participant will email me at amusingprovincial@yahoo.com with the subject line reading:  Egg Carton Swap. Please do so as soon as possible but by March 10. I will then pair you up with 2 other participants and you will contact one another.   You will then briefly let each other know your interests and mailing addresses.  For instance I love anything farm related and I love neutral colors.  Then you will get to work crafting your egg carton.  There are lots of fun examples online like this one from The Other Side of Me.

Now is the fun part- you can dig through your stash of goodies and fill each egg carton space (please use a 6 egg carton I have even found these in the Easter candy section) with goodies in your friends favorite colors.  Also decorate the inside and outside of your carton and mail it by March 29 for a sweet Easter surprise.  I love to find fun vintage goodies for my recipients at antique stores or online at my favorite novelty store the Speckled Egg

Here are some of my favorite Pinterest examples.

Happy Hens

I have chickens on my mind.  They were our first farm dream to come to realization and I have not looked back.  We love gathering eggs every day, so far it has not lost its wonder.  It is so fun to watch them strut their stuff around the farm. We are putting together our wish list of chicks to order and I can’t wait to have more frizzles and sultans with their funky feathers.

Thanks to Pinterest I came across this awesome blog with some really fun ideas to try in our coop.  I can’t wait for spring to arrive!

I just love their feathered hats!

I want to make one of these!!!

All In A Row

I have this little Pinterest board…..perhaps maybe a few Pinterest boards….that is there for days like today.  I am talking about my “All In A Row” board.  You see I have had a very crazy beginning to the New Year.  One that confirms the summons that January beckons.  I need to purge.  Get more organized.  I am a fairly organized person.  I don’t have a lot of room for extra stuff.  And if you ask my kiddos teachers I am constantly throwing away papers I may or may not have been supposed to keep.

One chaotic Monday morning this month there was a divine intervention I truly believe.  It had been a hard week.  Actually 2012 was a hard year.  But anyways that week had been really tough.  The weekend tougher.  And Monday morning.  Someone was out to get me.  I probably don’t talk enough about my spiritual life.  I’m not the preachy type.  But boy oh boy.  I have no doubt that my Sweet Jesus sent a crew of angels to protect me that day.  Listen to this song by Rodney Atkins if you haven’t before.  I was going through Hell.  But I wasn’t going to stop there. I kept going, praying and believing that God would get me through.  And He did.  And I believe it’s because of Him I am still alive.  I won’t tell you the details and some of you that know some of them might think I’m exaggerating; but I’m convinced.  So…. very long story put very shortly, the last attempt to my destruction ended in my car being totaled (after we all safely evacutated the building we were in when it happened, someone had hit my parked car which hit the building and the gas line. I told you!).  Yes, the lovely minivan that I carted my children around. My livestock.  The one that once lost it’s steering wheel while I was driving.  Good times.  I actually did love that van.  One of the reasons is that it was paid for.  Which brings me to my need to get organized.  I couldn’t find the title anywhere!  I could find every other paper from the van; even receipts from oil changes!  So this week I re ordered the title and am organizing all of our important documents.  I love this photo and instructions can be found by clicking on it.

I don’t plan on stopping there.  I NEED to organize my pantry and mud room as well.  Here are my inspiration photos for those.  If you find any vintage lockers like these.  Call me.  Please!

Click on the fridge photo for this ladies awesome organization tips.

Well gals.  I have lots and lots of work to do.  Do you have any organizing tips to share?  I’d love to hear them!  Oh and thanks for listening!
